Intelligent Handling Of Weather Forecasts

Some typical cases of i n te l l i gen t handling of weather forecasts such as t ranslat ion, v i s u a l i z a t i o n , e t c . are decomposed into two subprocesses ~ analysis and s y n t h e s i s . S p e c i f i c techn iques are presented f o r a n a l y s i s and s y n t h e s i s of weather f o r e c a s t texts as well as f o r g e n e r a t i o n of weather maps. These techn iques deal w i t h the weather f o r e c a s t s at d i f ferent levels ~ syntact ic, discourse and semantic. They are based on a conceptua l model u n d e r l y i n g weather f o r e c a s t s as we l l as on formal d e s c r i p t i o n s of the means of expression used in part icular natural and cartographic sublanguages.
